The Pinball Lineup
Nine machines, nine completely different games. Here are a few highlights.
Fish Tales
Williams' 1992 fishing-themed classic is one of the most beloved pinball tables ever made. The reel-in ramp, the bass that leaps out of the cabinet, the exaggerated "fisherman" multiball — it earns every inch of its legendary status.
X-Files
Sega's 1997 X-Files table captures the paranoia of the show perfectly. Voice clips from Mulder and Scully, a UFO target, and a genuinely tricky layout make this one of the more challenging machines in the row — trust no one, drain no ball.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Stern's swashbuckling blockbuster title brings the film's audio, video clips, and ship battles to a pinball cabinet. The Black Pearl centerpiece and cannon-shot modes make this a crowd favorite for players of every skill level.
Beyond those three, our row covers decades of pinball history — from early solid-state machines to late-90s blockbusters — with more variety than you will find almost anywhere else in the Triangle. See the full game list →
Why Real Pinball Beats Every App and Simulator

Pinball simulators have gotten impressive. But they will never replicate what happens when a steel ball actually rolls down a physical playfield. Here is what you only get on a real machine:
- Physical ball physics. Every table plays slightly differently based on its age, its slope, and the quirks of its specific mechanism. No algorithm captures that.
- Flipper feel. The resistance, the click, the timing lag or snap of a real flipper coil cannot be simulated on a touchscreen.
- Nudging. On a real machine, a well-timed body English can save a drain. It is a legitimate skill. Apps do not have it.
- Mechanical sounds. The clatter of a bumper, the thunk of a target, the rattle of a ball through a ramp — these sounds come from real moving parts.
- The stakes. Three balls, no continues, no rewind. When your last ball drains, it drains. That tension is part of the game.

Restored the Right Way
Every pinball machine at Super Rad has been restored using original parts and original boards. We do not swap in reproduction playfields or cut corners with modern replacement components when the authentic part can be sourced and rebuilt. This matters for two reasons.
First, it means the game plays the way it was designed to play. A board that has been properly recapped and aligned delivers the exact timing the designer intended. Flippers snap the way they should. Lights sequence in the right order. Ramps do not have that vague, slightly-off feel that comes from a conversion.
Second, it means these machines will still be here and playing correctly years from now. We are not burning through them. We are maintaining them the same way a classic car collector maintains a '69 Camaro: with knowledge, patience, and the right parts.
Monthly Pinball Tournament
Super Rad hosts a monthly pinball tournament open to players of all skill levels. Whether you have been playing for thirty years or you just discovered Fish Tales last weekend, the tournament is a genuine community event — competitive enough to be exciting, welcoming enough that newcomers keep coming back.
Tournament format, machine selection, and entry details are posted ahead of each event. Competition is typically run across multiple machines with scores tallied across rounds, so one bad game does not knock you out.
Outside of tournament nights, all nine machines are available for casual play any time the bar is open. No reservation required — walk in, get tokens, start playing.

Tips for Pinball Newcomers
Start with Fish Tales
Fish Tales is considered one of the most beginner-friendly machines ever made. The layout is intuitive, the modes are clearly telegraphed by the display, and the fishing reel ramp gives new players a satisfying skill shot to aim for immediately.
Use Both Flippers Independently
New players often hold both flipper buttons the whole time. Try using just one at a time. The left flipper handles the right side of the table; the right flipper handles the left. Controlled, targeted shots beat frantic flailing every time.
Read the Rules Card
Every machine has a rules card — usually inside the glass or on the apron. It tells you what the major modes are and how to start them. Two minutes with the card dramatically improves your score on any machine.
Nudge, Don't Tilt
You can legally push and shake a pinball machine to influence the ball. The tilt sensor allows a moderate amount of this. Push too hard and you get a penalty — your flippers go dead for a few seconds. Learn where the line is on each machine.
Watch One Game Before You Play
Most machines have an attract mode that runs through the rules and shows footage of major shots. Watch it before you insert your token. You will immediately understand what the table is asking you to do.
Ask the Staff
The Super Rad team genuinely knows these machines. If you want a quick rundown of any table in the row, just ask. We are happy to walk you through the key shots before you play.
